COMPREHENSIVE ENGLISH

“Comprehensive”, like most words, has various meanings. First, “Comprehensive” means: full, broad, extensive, large in scope, all-inclusive. Next, “Comprehensive” means: knowing and comprehending, grasping, fully understanding, extensive knowledge, perceptive.

At the heart of ESL in Edmonton is a commitment to providing every student with a full, extensive and knowledge and understanding of all of the various parts that come together to make Good English. That’s Comprehensive English!

Comprehensive English is not just a type of course. It is a Concept, an Approach and Continuous System of Learning exclusive to ESL in Edmonton. It has been designed, developed, and implemented for especially ESL in Edmonton. Comprehensive English “Proprietary Lesson Materials” have been trademarked and copyrighted, so you won’t find them anywhere else but here. ESL in Edmonton uses a combination of Classic Literature including Shakespeare and other Great English Writers and Thinkers, (at any level and depending on the level and needs of students) and a collection of Proprietary Lesson Materials designed especially for our students. ESL in Edmonton goes to lengths to make sure that we “fill in the gaps” in students’ knowledge and understanding by following a logical, practical, curriculum but combining it with personalized materials and instruction

AN INTEGRATED APPROACH & CANADIAN CONTENT

Moreover, ESL in Edmonton uses an Integrated Approach that uses an ever-growing collection of different methods and materials to reach different sensory and processing centres of your brain. We are BIG on helping students make CONNECTIONS between words, vocabulary, parts of speech and concepts. This is because, as we keep telling our students: Everything is Connected!”

An Integrated Approach means the lessons are designed so that while you are learning English, you are also learning about Canadian History, Culture, Government, Heroes  and Values  . . .  as well as a little bit of a whole lot of other subjects. International content and perspectives are also included.

Much of the Canadian Content that you get at ESL in Edmonton is the same kind of valuable information that every citizen needs to know — and every immigrant needs to learn. So, you will be “killing two birds with one stone”. But the material is presented in such a way, that most of the time, you don’t even realize how much you are learning.
BUT, you will be glad that you did!

Ideally, you would get the chance to learn from your instructor and practice what you learn every single day. But for most people, that just isn’t possible or practical. That is one of the reasons that homework is so important. But, ESL in Edmonton tries to help you maximize your experience. We offer different “Course Sections” or “Modules” with different meeting days, times, and frequency available —  depending on student interest and demand.
